3D ohne Brille – mit diesem Konzept gelang Nintendo 2011 ein würdiger Nachfolger für den Nintendo DS. Bis heute hat sich der Nintendo 3DS über 75 Millionen Mal verkauft. 2015 erschien hierzulande der "New Nintendo 3DS" – eine schnellere Version mit einem zusätzlichen Stick und zwei weiteren Schultertasten.
Jahrelang schien Homebrew unerreichbar – Nintendo hatte gegenüber der Wii definitiv dazu gelernt. Anfangs war nur eine alte Firmware per Flashcard hackbar, bis im November 2014 "NINJHAX" veröffentlicht wurde, mit dem zum ersten Mal Homebrew ohne Zusatz-Hardware (aber mit Spiel) ausgeführt werden konnte. Zahlreiche Exploits folgten, bis im August 2017 mit "ntrboothax" der "heilige Gral" erschien, mit der sich jeder 3DS auf jeder Firmware sowohl modden, als auch unbricken lässt.
Zwischenzeitlich drohte sich die Community aufzuspalten, was glücklicherweise nur von kurzer Dauer war.
Zoogie hat ein Tool veröffentlicht, welches es ermöglicht, einen 3DS auf der aktuellen Firmware per DSiWareHax mit einer CFW auszustatten! Das heißt es wird nur ein DSiWare-Spiel für ~2€ benötigt, anstatt ein zweiter 3DS, eine DS-Flashkarte oder einem Hardmod!

NDS-Bootstrap wurde aktualisiert.
Für 3DS-Nutzer gibt es nichts wirklich neues. Lediglich Rockman.EXE: Operate Shooting Star wird jetzt in den RAM geladen und NDS-Bootstrap kann mit der aktuellen Version von devkitARM kompiliert werden.

Asdolo hat eine neue Beta seines All-In-One-Injectors für den 3DS veröffentlicht.
Famicom-Disk-System-Spiele lassen sich jetzt injizieren, außerdem wurde ein Tool zum Extrahieren und Packen von CIAs hinzugefügt. Forwarder für VirtuaNES, gpSP und mGBA können nun auch erstellt werden; zudem wurden einige Fehler behoben – so wurden GBA-CIAs manchmal nicht erstellt, wenn Patches angewendet wurden und Cheats für den SNES9x-Forwarder funktionierten nicht. Auch kann in der Datenbank manuell nach Metadaten und Bildern gesucht werden und eine Warnung wird angezeigt, wenn bei GBA- und FDS-Injections das BIOS fehlt.

Der TWLoader wurde aktualisiert.
Der Updater funktioniert wieder und zwei Fehler wurden behoben – einer, bei dem Spieleinstellungen für NES-Spiele nicht geladen wurden und einer, bei dem TWLoader abstürzte, wenn eine Banner-Datei nicht existierte.

Ein lange bestehender Fehler, der dafür sorgte, dass Spiele wie Dokapon Journey, Contra 4, Megaman Starforce, Chrono Trigger (benötigt AP-Patch) und mehr nicht funktionierten, wurde behoben.

TWLoader wurde aktualisiert.
Aufgrund GitHubs Abschaltung von TLS v1.1 wurde der Updater erst Mal deaktiviert. NES-Spiele lassen sich abspielen, wenn diese in "/roms/nes" platziert werden; als Emulator kommt nesDS zum Einsatz. Das Spiellimit pro Seite wurde von 20 auf 40 erhöht und im Wood-Theme kann SELECT gedrückt werden, um den Skalierungseffekt der Icons zu deaktivieren. Ferner wurde der Knopf für die Einstellungen im R4-Theme von SELECT auf START geändert und ein neues Game-Boy-Color-Logo hinzugefügt.
Natürlich gab es auch wieder einige Fehlerbehebungen: So werden Banner von DSi-erweiterten Spielen nun korrekt gecached – dazu müssen die "twloader.nds" vom "flashcardsdroot (all)"-Ordner erneut auf die microSD einer Flashkarte extrahiert, die Banner-Dateien in "SD://_nds/twloader/bnricons/flashcard" gelöscht und die Spiele erneut hinzugefügt werden. Auch starten Spiele von einer Flashkarte wieder, wenn das R4- oder Wood-Theme benutzt wird.

Denkt daran, dass der Updater nicht mehr funktioniert und ihr deshalb manuell aktualisieren müsst. Ab dieser Version wird er aber wieder funktionieren, da er nun über TitleDB geht.
Die TitleDB-Liste lässt sich nun filtern und sortieren; zudem wurde eine Update-Funktion für Homebrews von TitleDB hinzugefügt. Das heißt, ihr könnt ganz einfach eure Homebrews aktuell halten! Updates werden blau angezeigt – allerdings müssen alle Titel erst mit "Y" neu installiert werden, damit sie zum Cache hinzugefügt werden. Danach können mit "Y" alle veralteten Homebrews auf einmal aktualisiert werden! Auch lassen sich Homebrews als 3DSX herunterladen. Datei-Metadaten werden jetzt auch erst geladen, wenn die Dateiliste fertig ist.

PCX-Bitmap lassen sich nun betrachten und DIFF-Dateien extrahieren. Der Ticket.db-Parser wurde verbessert und gibt nur noch verifizierte Titlekeys aus; zudem kann die Schriftart jetzt während des Betriebs geändert werden – kompatible Schriftarten können auf GitHub gefunden werden. Außerdem werden CIAs mit mehr als 256 Inhalten unterstützt und fehlerhafte CIAs lassen GodMode9 nicht mehr abstürzen.
Auch wurden das XORpad-"Laufwerk" und der ncchinfo.bin XORpad-Generator als "veraltet" markiert, da diese nicht mehr benötigt werden. Als Alternative zu NAND-XORpads bietet sich FUSE-3DS an.

GitHub hat heute die Unterstützung für TLS v1.1 entfernt. Da der 3DS TLS v1.2 nicht unterstützt (außer der Browser, seltsamerweise), kann er keine Verbindung zu GitHub.com mehr aufbauen, was einige Homebrews und deren Update-Funktion betrifft. Es gibt zwar einen potentiellen Workaround per libcurl, allerdings sind Downloads dann sehr langsam. Es wird sich zeigen, ob ein Weg drumherum führt (außer natürlich einen anderen Code-Hoster zu nutzen).

Das ist z.B. nützlich, wenn der FriendCodeSeed und/oder die SecureInfo ausgetauscht wurden und kein Backup vorhanden ist. Bis auf die Wiederherstellung von einem Backup werden nur offizielle Nintendo-Funktionen genutzt, was das Tool sehr zuverlässig macht.

PR4GM4 hat kit-kat für den 3DS aktualisiert.
Leider ist diese Version ein Downgrade gegenüber der Vorgängerversion. Es wurden alle Funktionen entfernt und lediglich der NTRViewer-Teil beibehalten – das heißt, dass kit-kat jetzt lediglich ein Streaming-Client ist. Der Funktionsumfang ist zwar deutlich geringer, aber die Dateigröße umso höher: Statt zarten zehn Megabyte bringt es kit-kat nun auf satte 37 Megabyte. Moderne Softwareentwicklung! Der Grund ist übrigens der, dass der Entwickler nicht wollte, dass es so aussieht, als hätte er die ganzen anderen Tools gemacht, obwohl er sie nur eingebunden hat.
Um kit-kat zu nutzen muss lediglich der NTR Selector auf einem New3DS installiert, NTR >= 3.4 gestartet und die IP des 3DS im Programm angegeben werden.
PR4GM4 hat kit-kat für den 3DS aktualisiert.
Der "Memory Patch" Button wurde entfernt. Eine bessere Alternative befindet sich im Rosalina-Menü in Luma3DS, wenn L + Steuerkreuz unten + SELECT gedrückt wird. Hier muss unter "Debugger Options" Debugging aktiviert werden.
I have removed the memory patch button due to a better alternative already in every CFW 3ds. Now just do L + DPadDown + Select and open "Debugger Options" and Enable Debugging. This will do the exact same affect its just now a bit more convenient and works for the latest games.

Hier ist ein TWLoader-Update für den 3DS.
Die Icons von DSi-erweiterten Spielen werden nun wie auf dem DSi animiert. Einige ROM-Hacks nutzen ein in TWLoader eingebautes Icon – wer zuvor schon Icons für die Hacks "Fire Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow" (englische Übersetzung), "Pokémon Blaze Black" und/oder "Pokémon Volt White" hatte, sollte diese aus "SD://_nds/twloader/bnricons" löschen. Leider werden die Icons von Spielen, die von einer Flashkarte hinzugefügt wurden, noch nicht animiert.
Außerdem wurde ein Willkommensbildschirm für Erstnutzer hinzugefügt und einige Darstellungsfehler behoben.

Die meisten DSi-erweiterten Spiele funktionieren nun und ROMs, die kleiner als 16 MB sind, werden jetzt in den RAM geladen. Auch wurde der Wireless-Support gefixt, was bedeutet, dass DS Download Play ab sofort funktioniert – allerdings nur für SDK5-Spiele!
